Into which river did the original owner throw this cache after his break-up, in April 2011?
The answer : Rhine
The Liebesbrücke geocache (GC2EJCE) hangs from the railway bridge that links Cologne's main station (Germany) to the other bank of the Rhine. Since 2008, couples have come to fasten a padlock engraved with their two names to the railings, then throw the key into the river — a custom that came from the Ponte Milvio, in Rome (Italy). There are several hundred thousand of them, and the cache is one of those padlocks.
It was hidden in September 2010 by Team_Camouflage as a declaration of love. Then, on 27 April 2011 at 10:30 p.m., came the break-up. The owner decided to throw the cache into the Rhine and published a note speaking of “a real liberation” and of a four-and-a-half-year story that had just ended. A few days later Huelva adopted the abandoned geocache and hung a new padlock; in October 2012 Geocaching HQ made it its geocache of the week. Thoto then took over in 2014.
It is up to the visitor to pick out one padlock among hundreds of thousands, under the constant passing of trains and strollers. A spoiler provides a photo, and it is not one too many! Good luck.
