The Petra geocache (GC282A) is the first geocache in Jordan, hidden in November 2001 by Steve (Licorice). It sits on a lookout above the Habees Crusader fort, in the heart of the Nabataean site of Petra, with a 360-degree view over the city.
The container is tucked away in the rock formations. The difficulty comes from the terrain: overhangs block satellite reception near ground zero, to the point that the owner recommends relying on elevation rather than coordinates, using the figures left behind by previous finders.
It fits into an ordinary visit to Petra: the path passes right by the cache on the way to the city or up to the Monastery.
