Q's Geo-Plinko

The Q's Geo-Plinko geocache (GC5BQX1) waited for its visitors in a private garden in Illinois, in the shape of a green wooden cabinet a metre and a half tall. You opened its two doors to discover a giant Plinko: this game from the American show The Price Is Right, known in France as Le Juste Prix, consists of dropping a chip at the top of a board bristling with pegs and watching it bounce down into a slot at the bottom. Landing in the right one gave the code to the padlock of the ammo can set at the foot of the cabinet, the one that held the logbook.

The title comes from the designer's username, Major_Boothroyd: the real name of Q, James Bond's engineer. He signs "Q" on some fifty mechanical caches, each as brilliant as the last. After eight years of bad weather, GeoMedic5747 adopts the cache and rebuilds it as new in 2022. Geocaching HQ made it its geocache of the week in October 2023, then kept it in its selection of the year.

A really lovely aside: in February 2021, a geocacher used the Plinko to ask his partner to marry him. The cache was archived on 21 April 2025, its owner selling the house - he has promised the Plinko a second life on his new plot.
