The Alberichs Edelsteinturm geocache (GC38DP9) is nicknamed by its own owners “the tower nobody wanted”. It nonetheless counts more than 14,000 finds and 7,500 favorite points.
Its history explains the nickname. Installed in February 2011 in the Riedrode forest under the name Alberich, it changed name, listing and location before werner54 took over its maintenance in April 2015, at the request of die Helden, and brought it back to the Riedrode woods alongside Alberich der Zwergenkönig — where, as they put it, it always belonged.
What justifies its thousands of favorite points is the build itself. This is not a simple hidden box but a large wooden structure, meticulously carved and made by hand. The cache is known for its ingenious mechanisms: players have to interact with the construction and work through mechanical manipulations to open the tower and reach the logbook.
