GeoAventure #1 : Toute première fois

The GeoAventure #1 : Toute première fois geocache (GC7K4M1) opens a series of three caches (two mysteries and one virtual) around Paris, signed qgx, who is also behind geocoins.io. Created in 2018, it stands out for its unusual digital format.

The puzzle takes the form of a genuine interactive video game in pixel art, developed by qgx. The player takes on the role of a “muggle” — the term for someone outside the game — who has to discover the world of geocaching. To progress through the online adventure, you must take in the basic rules and pass an interactive quiz of 20 questions. Only once that test is cleared is the character sent into a virtual world to track down their very first digital geocache. Solving the on-screen adventure rewards the player with the real geographic coordinates, which lead to a small physical container — micro sized, often a camouflaged film canister — hidden in a very accessible spot in the streets of Paris.

The video-game concept made enough of an impression for the series to be featured on the official geocaching blog. The series continues with GeoAventure #2 : Level up ! and GeoAventure #3 : le Fantôme de l'Opéra.
