The Table Top Trove geocache (GCMYYZ) sits on the summit of Table Mountain, above Cape Town, less than 500 metres from the upper cableway station. Its owner, the Richter Family, presents it as the most visited geocache in Africa.

The container is modest — a 15-centimetre plastic box tucked under a few rocks — but the view most certainly is not. From its spot, the cache looks out over the city of Cape Town, the unmistakable outline of Lion's Head, the Atlantic Ocean and historic Robben Island offshore.

That continent-wide attendance record comes down mainly to logistics and access. The box lies a very short walk from the upper station of the famous Table Mountain Aerial Cableway. Players can therefore choose a demanding climb up steep trails such as Platteklip Gorge, or reach the summit in a few minutes by cable car.
