The Scotland's First geocache (GCF0) is an essential piece of history for fans of the game. Hidden on 15 December 2000 by the player Jock Scott, it holds the title of the oldest cache still active in the whole of the United Kingdom.

The adventure of tracking it down is well worth the detour. Set in wild, remote country about an hour and a quarter's drive north of Glasgow, it calls for an hour-and-a-half walk up the flank of a hill. The climb looks easy at first glance, but the terrain should not be underestimated. More than one of us has thought “I expected it to be easier” — and for good reason: the owner swapped the Difficulty / Terrain ratings! Once at the cache, though, we are rewarded with spectacular scenery.

For any player travelling in the region, signing that logbook is a kind of pilgrimage to the origins of the activity in Europe. Put on a good pair of walking boots and set off in the footsteps of the pioneers!
