The Liberty's Flame geocache (GC63DB) is a virtual cache placed by otterbuff in June 2002 on the Place de l'Alma, in Paris. With close to 11,000 finds, it is one of the most visited virtuals in France.
The virtual invites you to discover the full-size replica of the flame of the Statue of Liberty, given to Paris in 1989. The monument has no official connection with Diana Spencer, but it stands directly above the Alma tunnel: visitors turned it into a spontaneous memorial, and so it has remained.
The cache nearly disappeared. In January 2008, the owner disabled it after a year of hesitation, and received such a flood of messages that she gave up on archiving it. As recently as 2021 she noted her surprise at seeing it still alive, and her pleasure at every find notification landing in her inbox.
