The Geist des Hagen geocache (GC11JM6) is the most favorited active geocache in the world. On 5 August 2023 it received its 10,000th favorite point; since the Berlin Lego giraffe was archived, it is the only one showing a five-figure favorite count. It now holds more than 11,000, for close to 18,000 finds.
Hidden in March 2007 by die Helden in the Riedrode forest, in Hesse, it draws on the Nibelungenlied, the Song of the Nibelungs, in which Hagen is one of the characters. The route starts along a path lined with ghosts, small and large, leading to the realm of Hagen's spirit. There you have to find a magic tree stump whose secret lures the ghost out of its hiding place — the whole thing driven by electronics and a voice module.
It was named geocache of the week for Halloween 2013 and remains, together with its Riedrode neighbours, one of the great pilgrimages of German geocaching.
