England's First!

The England's First! geocache (GC4E) was placed on 6 June 2000 at Berrylands, southwest of London. The game was one month old.

Every cache in the world then fitted on a web page cobbled together by Mike Teague, the first person to have found Ulmer's. On 21 June 2000 it listed forty of them, across four continents, of which a single one in the United Kingdom: this one, summed up in one line - coordinates, a date, an owner, and this caveat: "uncertain coords". Ireland had beaten England by three days with Europe's First (GC43), at Bray Head; Scotland had to wait until December.

Nobody ever recorded a find on GC4E: the box disappeared very early on. For its tenth anniversary, on 6 June 2010, geocachers gathered on the spot all the same, the programme being to form a circle around ground zero and dance around it; that same year, a commemorative plaque was installed at the original location together with Thames Water and Kingston upon Thames council. Since 2023, a virtual cache makes it possible to log the place with a photo.
