What is the Norwegian name of the Eagle Road where this cache hides?
The answer : Ornevegen
The Eagle Road geocache (GC2TJP3) waits in the last hairpin of the Ørnevegen, the “Eagle Road” in Norway. The name comes from its summit, ground where the eagle was at home.
Before this road officially opened, on 15 September 1955, the spot could only be reached by boat.
The highest bend is now a viewpoint: three concrete slabs reaching out over the precipice. Inaugurated on 21 June 2006, it looks out over the Seven Sisters waterfall, the abandoned Knivsflå farm and the cruise ships. The landscape has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2005 under the name “West Norwegian Fjords”.
Geocaching HQ made it its geocache of the week in January 2021. Getting to the coordinates becomes as memorable as finally laying hands on the box. It is the journey that counts — but the destination too ;).
