Cathedral Cavern Cache

The Cathedral Cavern Cache geocache (GC2CQB7) waits at the far end of an abandoned slate quarry in Little Langdale, in England. A level thirty-metre tunnel opens into a chamber some twelve metres high, its vault resting on a pillar of rock the quarrymen left standing. Two openings cut through the slate light it up: in mid-afternoon the light falls from the ceiling as it would in a nave. Hence the name.

You walk up by the path that runs past the old stone Slater's Bridge. Underground there is no GPS signal: the hint is essential, as Geocaching HQ pointed out in 2019 when it made the box its geocache of the week. Goldfish lived for years in the pool at the foot of the pillar: they are gone now. Bring a torch if you mean to go beyond the chamber, and beware of water deeper than it looks.
