The Easterly Extreme geocache (GCX0QP) marks the end of the Australian continent: Cape Byron, beyond which there is nothing but the Pacific. James Cook named the cape in May 1770: the Bundjalung of Byron Bay.
Liz and Bruce placed a discreet container there in July 2006. You reach it by the Cape Byron Walking Track, then over slippery rocks sprayed by the swell. In the southern winter, humpback whales pass offshore on their way north: the point is one of the best places in the country to watch them go by.
Geocaching HQ made it its geocache of the week in February 2021, then kept it in its selection of the year. It piles up favourite points, less for its box than for the magnificent place.
