Cadillac Ranch Cars

The Cadillac Ranch Cars geocache (GC4K7Y3) is hidden in one of the ten Cadillacs planted nose-down in the ground west of Amarillo, Texas, along Route 66. Cadillac Ranch dates from 1974: a collective called Ant Farm buried, for the local millionaire, ten saloons tilted at the angle of the Great Pyramid of Giza. An odd project. In 1997 the installation was quietly moved three kilometres further west, into a pasture, to take it away from the growing city.

The factory colours vanished long ago: visitors are invited to get the spray cans out, and the bodywork keeps changing its look - white for a shoot, matt black when Doug Michels died, rainbow in 2012.

Scubafrogger placed the cache in August 2013 in the second car from the western end: you have to straighten up inside the shell to reach the paper logbook. Above all the owner invites you to sign the car itself in paint, with a photo to show for it, and to pick up on your way the empty cans left in the field. The official blog made it its geocache of the week in September 2014.
