GGT6: Driving Miss Daisy

The GGT6: Driving Miss Daisy geocache (GC6M65N) was placed on 21 June 2016 by Trycacheus along the gravel roads of Gilby, a village of two hundred and forty inhabitants in North Dakota. At ground zero wait an ammo can, a hard-to-identify contraption and a set of instructions. The logbook, meanwhile, stays shut inside a padlocked compartment. To open it you need an accessory nobody keeps in their bag: your own car. The owner offers just one warning: Miss Daisy "likes to drive around 40-50 mph". The title is borrowed from the film Driving Miss Daisy (1989), except that here it is the geocacher who drives. So take the object, put your arm out of the window, drive - and for the rest, we will leave you the surprise!

Behind the handle is Chad Thorvilson, a carpenter by trade, who has been placing caches since 2010 and has turned his village into an open-air workshop: some fifty mechanical gadget caches, robot arm, generator bicycle, fairground machine. Enough to earn Gilby the nickname "Disneyland of geocaching" and bring it visitors from Europe and Australia. Every autumn, the Gilby Gone Wild gathering nearly doubles the population.

The GGT prefix refers to the Gilby GeoTour, a route of some thirty caches that renumbered much older boxes along the way. Geocaching HQ made this one its geocache of the week in August 2023, and it collects favourites.
