The La Grande Fache geocache (GC7AX5A) sits at 3,005 metres, atop a pyramid overlooking the cirques of Marcadau, Piedrafita and Bachimaña. The summit stands exactly on the French-Spanish border: Hautes-Pyrénées on one side, Huesca on the other, where it is known as Gran Facha.
A small Virgin of Lourdes once watched over the place, but has disappeared.
La Grande Fache is reckoned one of the more approachable 3,000-metre peaks of the Pyrenees, which does not mean a short day out: from the Pont d'Espagne, above Cauterets, the normal route up the Marcadau valley adds up to 1,500 metres of ascent, and the Wallon refuge is there to split the day in two. Its owner, l.a.f.l.e.u.r, has stocked any number of Pyrenean summits the same way, from the Petit Vignemale to the Literole.
