Mingo

The Mingo geocache (GC30) is the oldest geocache still active in the world. Hidden on 11 May 2000 by The Kansas Stasher, eight days after the very first cache in history, it is the seventh ever created and the first in Kansas.

The container is nothing spectacular: a fifteen-centimetre buried cylinder with only the lid showing. Nor is its position — a rest area near Interstate 70, in the middle of the plains. That is exactly what makes it a place people pass through: the owner describes it as a quick stop on a long trip, and thousands of geocachers have taken the detour through Kansas for this single point on the map.

The title of oldest cache was debated for years on the Groundspeak forums. The owner sticks to verifiable facts and has simply been thanking, since 2004, those who keep pulling over to log it.
