Voss Margarine

The Voss Margarine geocache (GC18182) is a multi-cache hidden in April 2008 by Mystphi at the foot of a former margarine factory in Hamburg. It has gathered more than 11,000 finds and 8,000 favorite points.

The owner recounts a schoolboy memory: on the bus, the pride of the classmate who was first to decipher the huge letters “V-O-S-S M-A-R-G-A-R-I-N-E” on the façade. Back then the building was the most imposing in the neighbourhood, with its ox head and its little figure in a chef's hat looking down on the road from above. The factory closed, the landmark stayed, and the cache is as much a walk as a tribute to a childhood backdrop.

Its success rests on three things: the shared nostalgia of those who grew up spotting this historic building, the ingenuity of the final manipulation, which never fails to impress, and the pilgrimage aspect of paying tribute to Mystphi, its creator, who died in 2018.
