Terezka

The Terezka geocache (GC14WV8) was placed on 4 August 2007 by termiter.cz, a stone's throw from Prague's Old Town Square. It owes its name to the fountain set into the garden wall of the Clam-Gallas Palace: a seated young woman holding two vessels, one pouring the water of the basin, the other releasing a stream strewn with five stars, in memory of Saint John of Nepomuk, thrown into the Vltava from Charles Bridge. The work is officially called Vltava, but nobody in Prague calls it that.

On 6 August 2010, Terezka became the most visited traditional geocache in the world. It held that title until 13 May 2013, the day Charles Bridge (GC189E5) overtook it - its owner, a good sport, pointed out that he held the FTF on the very cache that had just outrun him. Geocaching HQ devoted an article to that Prague neck-and-neck. A micro cache in such a busy spot comes at a cost in upkeep: dozens of disablements, hundreds of replacements, then the archiving of the listing by a reviewer for want of owner attention. The fountain, for its part, still flows.
